Established in 1980, PTI was founded with core values of safety, dependability, and customer service. Those same three fundamentals continue to be steadfast for PTI for nearly 40 years.
Today PTI is comprised of over 5,000 associates providing transportation services to some of the largest companies in the railroad, mining and energy industries.
Crew transportation is the process of driving railroad train crews from point A to point B. These railroad crews need transportation to get to their starting point as well as brought back home after their route is complete.
Much like a shuttle service, PTI receives around-the-clock requests from our railroad customers to pick up and drop off train crews. PTI dispatchers match up drivers with these trips and the drivers safely transport the crews to their destinations. Taking place thousands of times a day, these trips can range from a few miles to a few hundred miles.
Operating 24 hours, 365 days a year while providing these services, PTI will travel over 100 million miles every year throughout the United States.
PTI specializes in Crew Transportation throughout the continental United States
As part of United Companies, Inc., Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI) was founded in 1980 and began its operations serving as a crew transportation service for Class I railroads in the Midwest. PTI’s focus is on safety, dependability, and on-time performance for over-the-road and dedicated yard van services to some of the biggest companies in the railroad industries. Those same three fundamentals continue to be steadfast for PTI.
Starting small in Evansville, IN, PTI expanded its operations through business contracts with the Dearborn, Central, Georgia and Alabama Divisions of Norfolk Southern and the Virginia Territory of CSXT and assumed the operations of a competitor with locations in five southern states.
As the company continued to expand its business, PTI announced in 2010 that Union Pacific (UP), one of their major railroad customers, awarded the company two new Crew Transportation Service Unit contracts increasing the total number of UP Service Units. With the new territories, the company added 22 new branch locations, approximately 90 additional fleet vans, and an estimated 300 employees bring staff totals to 3,200.
